In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) encourages the community to consider supporting the Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation (CIHF). Giving Tuesday is an annual global generosity movement that encourages people to give back and make a positive impact on their communities. CIHA, a vital healthcare institution committed to serving the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians highlights the critical role the Foundation plays in advancing healthcare, education, and community well-being.
“By supporting the hospital foundation, you play an integral role in supporting CIHA’s mission and commitment to excellence in healthcare,” said DJ Robinson, Chairman of the Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation. ”With your help, the foundation is able to manage key initiatives such as The Carmaleta Monteith Scholarship fund, named in honor of a Beloved Women and healthcare pioneer, which aims to provide financial assistance for healthcare workers within the Cherokee community to advance their education. By supporting this fund, you are contributing to the development of a skilled and dedicated healthcare workforce, ensuring a brighter future for both individuals and the community for the next seven generations.”
In addition to education initiatives for hospital employees, the CIHF helps secure new technology and equipment for various hospital departments. These advancements are crucial to maintaining high-quality patient care and enhancing the hospital’s capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the community.
A tax-deductible donation to the Hospital Foundation in honor of Giving Tuesday helps to ensure the CIHF is able to remain engaged in community outreach opportunities such as the distribution of dental hygiene activity books in celebration of Halloween. CIHF volunteers visited the Snowbird Community for their annual Halloween carnival and partnered with Cherokee Choices to provide health treats along with the dental hygiene activity book for all kindergarten through 5th grade students at Cherokee Central Schools. These educational materials play a vital role in promoting oral health awareness among children, fostering good habits that last a lifetime.
“We are here to make the “extras” possible,” said Robinson. “Things that might not be considered the role or responsibility of a hospital, the Foundation exists to enhance well-being of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, enriching their lives through better health and healthcare outcomes. Sometimes that looks like sugar-free treats for Halloween and other times that looks like purchasing a 15-passenger van for the Men and Women’s home so they can help get their residents to and from the doctor, or court, or work. That transportation may not seem like a typical hospital service, but when it helps make life a little less stressful for men and women during their recovery process, in the end it reinforces the hospital’s commitment to holistic healthcare and support.”
Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority CEO, Casey Cooper, expressed gratitude for the ongoing community support and emphasized the collective impact that can be achieved through contributions, stating, “Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a lasting difference. Every donation, regardless of size, helps us advance our mission of providing exceptional healthcare and support services to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.”
